David Correy - Go Hard Or Go Home (Episode 2)

David Correy doesn't want his fans to shuffle. "If you take someone's iPod, they might have everything from Pink to Maroon 5 to Rhianna, to Justin Timberlake to Kayne West to Carrie Underwood, " says David. "I want to embody all those artists in one." Armed with a powerful voice and a passion that knows no borders, this soul singer is poised to become just that - a 21st century global pop-star. Born in Brazil, David came to America in his infancy after immense poverty forced his birth mother to put him up for adoption. David's adoptive parents raised him in Annapolis, Maryland where his passion for music would quickly earn him starring roles in numerous high school musicals. He was a natural on the stage, but David truly began chasing his real dreams in another part of the school, the boys room."I was the king of taking bathroom breaks," David says, citing where he'd go to practice singing the Usher-inspired pop songs he had been writing after school. David's talents would earn him a four year scholarship to Boston's prestigious Berklee College of Music, where he would face his biggest challenge yet. Faced with a sudden illness that caused him to lose his voice completely, David became angry and depressed. The star student was forced to leave the program during his sophomore year to return home to recover. During his recovery process, David refused to give up. Slowly regaining his voice, he began writing songs that melded the pop sensibilities of Michael Jackson, Marc Anthony and Ne-Yo. After bouncing back again, David shared the stage with an array of artists including Ne-Yo, Bow Wow, Omarion, Ginuwine, Tyrese, Tank, Huey, Jibbs, Yung Berg, Avant and B5. But soon, fate would deal David another losing hand. This time, a near fatal car accident left him with a fractured hip and a broken leg. Currently in the last stages of recovery and undaunted by the setbacks, David has begun working with his new management Freshe Entertainment, under the direction of Kevin Taylor. Known for his signature events featuring DMV Favs Phil Ade, Fat Trel, Ra the MC and headline performers such as Nicki Minaj and Young Jeezy, to name a few, Kevin has added a fresh approach to David's musical career. Now having triumphed over illness and injury, David Correy is ready to take over pop-charts around the globe. "I'm an international artist because of where I'm from and what I came from," says David. "I want to inspire people to never give up and know that their day is coming. You just have to keep on fighting."

Band Buzz: David Correy
There are many words that describe the current state of the world. Adversity, struggle, and doubt are a few that come to mind.The word that best describes how we get through times like these is perseverance. The ability, despite our current situation, to fight through each day and create something better for tomorrow.When times like these fall on us, there is usually a leader that emerges and reminds people that they have the strength to fight and make a better tomorrow. David Correy, a singer/songwriter living in Annapolis, MD, has all the qualifications to become that leader. The next voice for the people.Born in Recife, Brazil, Correy was adopted by a Caucasian, American family. His birth mother, facing immense poverty, had to put Correy up for adoption when he was still an infant.His natural talent for singing was apparent from the start. Starring and singing in high school musicals earned Correy a 4 year scholarship to Berklee College of Music. It was at Berklee, that David would face the first of many hardships on his path to success. David was diagnosed with an illness that caused the young talent to lose his voice completely.After surgery and 6 months of voice therapy, David began to regain his voice. He immediately started recording music that blended his pop influences like Michael Jackson and Marc Anthony.His drive to get back behind a mic would pay off. Correy found himself as an opening act for musical artists Ne-Yo, Bow Wow, Ginuwine and more. His expressway to success however, was short-lived and again, his strength and ability to persevere would be tested.Driving home late one night, Correy would fall asleep behind the wheel and collide with a jersey wall. The impact would cause multiple injuries including a fractured hip and a broken leg. Somehow, Correy was able to pull himself out of the vehicle and onto the jersey wall just before another vehicle collided with his and crushed the interior, totaling the vehicle.Shortly after relearning to talk, Correy would now have to relearn to walk.It was during the last stages of his recovery that Correy starting developing his current "Urban Rock" sound."I would rather be respected as a person than an artist" Correy says. However, in this writer's opinion, he deserves respect as both. Songs like "Dreamin" and "Phoenix" off Correy's new E.P. "Urban Rock Odyssey" show his ability to cross and blend genres without watering them down. The album is a total package of lyric, music, and vocal perfection.It is clear that nothing will stand in the way of David Correy's music and message behind it. All Our Noise

David Correy Takes You On An Urban Rock Oddysey
I first took notice of David Correy and his band at their performance on the main stage at Artomatic back in July. It was a slow night, not a lot of people streaming through southeast DC, but his anthemic song, “Dreamin’”, with its irresistible hook and unexpected guitar solos built up the audience to an impressive strength. This single sets the bar pretty high for any future releases, and is the first song on his new EP “Urban Rock Oddysey”, now available through his web site and on iTunes.Seeing David in concert is a different experience than what’s to be found on the EP. The album is pretty slickly produced, with more than a few tracks featuring the unrelenting guitars and layered vocals you’d expect from a pop album (Correy is also sporting an All American Rejects shirt under that white blazer). But stick with it for “Guess You Forgot”, featuring DC’s very own Phil Adé sounding sort of thrown in, but appreciated nonetheless (says Adé, “You wanna join the clique / Get your own mouse”).The EP ends with “Phoenix”, a simpler, less frenzied chance to hear Correy’s vocal talent. It starts off a little John Mayer-ish until Correy’s opening lines. From there on, the song is entirely his; soulful, genuine, and heart-felt, which is what made his show at Artomatic so memorable.David Correy will be appearing live at the Music Link Foundation Fundraiser in Fairfax, VA on August 30, 2009.

seat 3 Edwin "JUSNYC" Guzman was born on September 24, 1982 in Utica, NY. Ed's affinity for music was obvious from a young age when he would bang out a beat on the table while his brother rhymed over it. At age 17, he came across a Playstation game called MTV Music Generator, which would serve as his first beat making software. He began making beats regularly using the game, often inviting his brother to again rhyme over his original beats. Word of Edwin's skills quickly spread around the neighborhood and several of his friends who were also trying to find their groove in the Hip Hop world, decided to form a group. The group was called "Special Teams" and they were vital in bringing more exposure to the upstate and more exclusively, Utica Hip Hop. Ed's role in Special Teams was Chief Inhouse Producer. In this role, Ed's skills continued to develop and he began to find his style. After a couple years, the members of the group decided to branch out and try to develop their own brands. This gave Edwin the ability to attempt to get his beats into the hands of people beyond his circle of friends. He began to make beats and produce for other local artists and he soon found that his reputation was building as a skilled and refined producer. Edwin wasn't the only member from Special Teams to find success once the group disbanded. The premier DJ from the group, DJ T-SAP had began working with David Correy, an up and coming artist on the Hip Hop scene. T-SAP knew of Ed's abilities as a producer and immediately started trying to get Ed and DC together. The two artists met and Edwin was able to impress David Correy enough that he requested Edwin to produce several beats exclusively for him. Edwin obliged and the two began a prosperous relationship. One of the highlights of the collaboration was a song called 'Red Cups', which is currently in regular rotation up and down the eastern seaboard. From the moment DC heard the beat for Red Cups, he knew he had a producer on the rise and he decided to make Edwin the Official Inhouse Producer for his label, Urban Rock Records. Edwin continues to push the boundaries of Hip Hop producing with his unusual samples and complex key signatures, making him one of the best and most coveted producers in the upstate New York area.
